Hello… I’m Lisa Musician, the Dietitian! Musician is my name and nutrition is my game. Fascinated about options for optimal health – a state of complete well-being and HOW to get there.
I would challenge you to think of any diet, recipe, meal plan, or app that created a state of optimal health & wellness or improved your health. If you have your preference and it’s working or consider yourself in optimal health, then you’re good to go! If not, read on.
When you’re not in the best of health, it affects your daily living in ways you may not notice at first. The longer you wait to deal with health issues, the more difficult it becomes to improve concerns, and takes additional time. Health isn’t usually a priority until it requires your attention.
This blog was born out of my passion and frustration at the lack of options given by the healthcare industry to improve your state of health & wellness through lifestyle choices. It’s rare and not the norm to focus on lifestyle approaches to improve health. Usually, medications are the first line of defense.
If you’re at the age where health is starting to concern you or you need to make changes but are not sure where to begin or what to ask, you’re in the right place.
Here you will learn Ways to Wellness and live a higher quality of life. I’ll take quality over quantity any day! Courtesy alert: I’m honest (like it or not); hard-wired with integrity (which gets me in trouble sometimes) and enthusiastic about promoting optimal health as naturally as possible. Pills should NOT be the first recommendation to improve health, unless necessary.
Boost your wellness with these 3 tips:
Tip #1: For the Smokers: Deal with this first
- There’s no such thing as a healthy smoker! I know someone who would argue with me. She thinks she’s healthy because she does yoga, bicycles (sometimes), and eats organic food, but she smokes!
- If you’re serious about improving your health, then smoking needs to be addressed. This is a no-brainer!
- Find a way to give up smoking. This includes vaping.
Tip #2: Ditch the idea of diets and your “food rules.”
- Spoiler alert: There are no good or bad foods, just choices between which foods will improve your health or weaken it.
- There’s no pleasure found in becoming healthier when you feel obligated to follow rules. (I’m not much of a rule follower.) In addition, your natural satisfaction suffers.
- A common ‘food rule’: You feel obligated to finish all the food on your plate because someone is starving in the world (I still don’t understand this one), or you don’t want to waste it. < This one I get! More on this topic in future blogs.
- Diets are temporary, at best a short-term fix. It’s usually not maintainable for the long term and may do nothing for health problems. Stay tuned for more information.
- What are some of your food rules? Leave me a comment
Tip #3: Start now with this practical and easy tip:
- Count your chips vs. veggies. Count how many times you eat a piece of fruit or vegetable and how many times you eat chips, crackers, cookies, etc. in one day. Who’s the winner? Maybe it’s an off day. Try again.
- Replace the “chips, cookies, crackers, etc.” you eat with your favorite fruits. Do this for 3 days.
- On day 4, replace another item of your choice with a favorite vegetable in addition to the fruit. Repeat this process from above. Congratulations! You’re eating one fruit and one vegetable a day and improving your health already!
